I didn't choose photography.
It chose me — the moment my first child was born. Before that, I looked at the world the way most people do: without really seeing it. Then suddenly there was a face I couldn't stop looking at. A gesture I was terrified to forget. I picked up a camera not to make art — but to hold on to something that was already disappearing.
That's where it started. Over twenty years ago.
What followed was the long, slow education of learning to see — not just my children, but everything. Streets, strangers, light, shadow, the ordinary Tuesday afternoon that turns out to be irreplaceable. I copied photographers I admired. I studied what made one frame matter and another disappear. I failed more than I succeeded.
And somewhere in that process I realized: photography was never about the photographs. It was about attention. About choosing what deserves to be seen — and why.
That question is what this project is built on.
My name is Andrzej. I write and photograph under the name ERYK. This is not a portfolio. It's a record of someone learning to pay attention.
